Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin opened the permanent exhibition of the Moscow Transport Museum. The museum complex, covering an area of more than 20,000 m², can accommodate up to 10,000 visitors per day and is designed for a wide international and city audience.
The exhibition covers a century and a half evolution of the capital’s mobility — from the horse-drawn tram to unmanned technologies and prospects for transport development until 2030. In 13 thematic zones, 53 original equipment samples, over 220 models, and more than 500 unique artifacts are presented.
Key transportation highlights of the museum:
– Ground transportation: a rare horse-drawn tram from 1872, a BF tramcar from 1927, and a military GAZ-AA “polutorka” truck that ensured movement along the “Road of Life”.
– Moscow Metro: a separate underground floor is entirely dedicated to the history of the metro — from the first subway builders to the historic car “Numbered” (81-717).
– Interaction and technologies: metro cabin simulators, a ride on the virtual Daimler 1904 bus, and the first interactive children’s through route in Russia.
The museum is seamlessly integrated into the capital’s transport network: it can be reached through the major hub “Three Stations Square” or by the city’s only museum trolleybus on route “T”.
“Under the task set by the Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin, we have created one of the largest and most technologically advanced transport museums in the world. The exhibition clearly demonstrates the impressive evolution of the capital’s mobility — from the first horse-drawn trams to the unmanned systems of the future. The museum will become the main educational and scientific research transport hub of the capital,” noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for transport issues, Maxim Liksutov.
