More than 200 houses in the Northern Administrative District are being repaired under the overhaul program this year

Under the regional major repair program, more than 200 residential buildings are being refurbished in the northern part of the capital. The work is carried out by specialists Moscow urban economy complex.

High-rise buildings on Dmitrovsky Proezd

The renovation will affect some of the tallest buildings in the Northern Administrative Okrug. They are located in the Timiryazevsky district at Dmitrovsky passage, building 20, blocks 1 and 2. These 25-story buildings were constructed in 1989–1990 according to a custom design. They have a cross-shaped form. The architectural appearance is defined by corner and rectangular balconies.

The buildings are being renovated, including facades, roofs, basements, and engineering systems. The external walls are finished using the “wet facade” technology. It involves several stages. First, the surfaces are cleared and washed, then primed, insulated with mineral wool boards, plastered, and reinforced with fiberglass mesh.

Specialists have now moved on to applying the decorative plaster layer and painting. Brackets for air conditioners have already been installed on the facades, which will later be supplemented with special baskets. In the final stage of the work, they will tidy up the entrance areas, replace the aluminum balcony screens with modern metal cassettes, install new double-glazed windows in the entrances, and renovate the blind area and the plinth.

A building with 10 entrances on Dmitrovskoye Highway

The oldest building in the Northern Administrative Okrug included in this year’s major renovation program is located in the Timiryazevsky district at Dmitrovskoye Highway, building 1, block 1. It is also the longest — with 10 entrances. The building was constructed in 1932 according to an individual project by architect Lev Shapovalov. The building has an L-shaped form and consists of a rectangular section and a corner block. The style of Constructivism is recognizable in the building’s appearance.

The facade, roofing, basement, and engineering utilities will be restored here. The craftsmen cleared and repaired the brickwork of the exterior walls, treated the surfaces with a biocidal agent, and returned the facades to their original historical color. The drip edges were replaced. They are currently refurbishing the entrance areas and replacing the double-glazed windows. Specialists will also need to restore the building’s plinth.

Former Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov he said that the capital’s major renovation program is one of the largest housing modernization projects not only in Russia but also in the world. It includes more than 30 thousand houses with a total area of over 320 million square meters.
