In the project “Active Citizen» opened voting, in which Muscovites will choose the name of the new pedestrian bridge in the city center. Its opened Sergey Sobyanin.
The new pedestrian bridge is located in the Yakimanka district. It connects sections of the Bolotnaya Embankment that were divided by Serafimovich Street. The structure links the walking route along the Moskva River: from Repinsky Square to Gorky Park and the Vorobyovy Hills.
The new bridge runs underneath the Small Stone Bridge. It is proposed to name it after the outstanding Russian artist Ilya Repin, whose monument is located in the nearby park. Another option is a name associated with the “Udarnik” cinema, which is a cultural heritage site. Users can choose one of the names or leave the decision to the experts.
The bridge was built using a construction method from the water that is rare for Moscow. At the first stage, materials and equipment were delivered by tugs and barges of a special flotilla. The structure was painted light beige, and gray granite was chosen for the pedestrian cladding.
Another unique art object on the water has appeared in the center of Moscow: the new bridge has become a functional addition and decoration of the Vodootvodny Canal. Its length is about 170 meters, and its width is 5.4 meters. The supports and railings are framed by architectural and artistic lighting, and on two of the four descents, there are gentle slopes for the convenience of people with limited mobility and pedestrians with strollers.
The construction of the bridge became a continuation of Moscow’s development strategy until 2030, which aims to create a comfortable urban environment for the city’s residents. Since 2022, six new bridges for pedestrians and cyclists have been opened over the Yauza River, Nagatinsky Zaton, and other waterways. In the capital, bridges for motorists are also being put into operation. Title For one of them, Gagarin’s, “active citizens” were chosen.
The voting was prepared by the “Active Citizen” project in collaboration with the city authorities Department of Capital Repairs and Department of Cultural Heritage.
Project “Active Citizen” has been operating since 2014. During this time, more than seven million people have joined it, and over 7.9 thousand votes have taken place. Each month, between 30 and 40 decisions made by Muscovites are implemented in the city. The project is developed by the State Public Institution “New Management Technologies” and the city Department of Information Technology.
