Two art exhibitions have opened in the Moscow Metro. They were prepared jointly with the academic art fair “Art-Russia,” as well as the Watercolor School and the Sergey Andriyaka Academy of Watercolor and Fine Arts.
“Under the instruction of Sergey Sobyanin, we are developing the metro as a cultural and educational platform. New exhibitions continue this tradition. Since the beginning of 2026, we have opened more than 25 exhibitions. We have prepared a joint project with ‘Art-Russia’ for the ninth time. In partnership with the Watercolor School and the Sergey Andriyaka Academy of Watercolor and Fine Arts, exhibitions are held, themed ‘Troikas’ are released, master classes and other events are conducted,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
The “Art-Russia” exhibition is timed to coincide with the eponymous academic art fair, which will take place from September 24 to 27 at Gostiny Dvor. The Moscow Metro has been cooperating with the “Art-Russia” project since 2021. During this time, eight joint exhibitions have been organized for passengers. The project introduces a wide audience to the contemporary academic school and contributes to the preservation of the country’s cultural heritage.
The first exhibition is presented on two platforms — in the passage between the “Dynamo” station of the Zamoskvoretskaya line and “Petrovsky Park”. Big Circle Line (BKL), as well as between the “Novatorskaya” station of the BKL and the station of the same name on the Troitskaya line. 28 works by contemporary artists from different regions of Russia have been prepared for visitors. Among them are “Blooming Lilac” by Nadezhda Vorontsova, “Spring (a couple)” by Galina Rusak, and “Chrysanthemums” by Andrey Tsukanov. They can be viewed until September 27 inclusive.
The second exhibition is located in the passage between the “Prospekt Vernadskogo” BCL station and the station of the same name on the Sokolnicheskaya line. It features works by People’s Artist of Russia Sergey Andriyaka and students of his school. Visitors will see 22 pieces created in the technique of classical multilayer watercolor. The exhibition will be open until September 30 inclusive.
The watercolor school was founded in 1999. The teaching follows Sergey Andriyaka’s method: artist-teachers and students work simultaneously on the same subject. The institution’s museum and exhibition complex features a permanent exhibition of the master’s works, and the temporary exhibition halls showcase works from the collections of leading Russian museums and contemporary artists.
The school also operates as a cultural and leisure center. On weekends, concerts, tours, as well as trial lessons in watercolor painting and animalistic sculpture take place here.
