Moscow Theater Center “The Cherry Orchard”, subordinate to the Moscow Department of Culture, under the direction of Alexander Vilkin, is launching the directorial laboratory ‘Gorky in the Mirror of Time’.
For 10 days, directors and actors will work on the staged reading of prose and dramatic works by Maxim Gorky. The focus will be on the classic plays, autobiographical prose, social feuilletons, and early stories of the writer. The result of the work will be three staged presentations of sketches of performances based on his works.
An appeal to the works of Maxim Gorky will allow us to speak to the audience about what is relevant here and now. The writer’s characters exist within a storm, trying to find a point of support. The same is experienced by modern man in the conditions of rapid world transformation.
Directors (with a directing education required) and students in the final years of directing faculties are invited to participate in the laboratory’s work. Selection is competitive. Written applications can be submitted until December 20, attaching a resume, a synopsis of the chosen material, the director’s explanation, as well as sketches of the stage space or visual references with a description of the concept. Based on the applications, a preliminary selection of participants for the next stage will be made. From January 12 to 20, in-person meetings will be organized for them. Lovers of stage productions based on the works of famous classics are also invited to the auditorium. At the Moscow Theater Center “Cherry Orchard,” you can watch performances “Marriage”, “Duck Hunting”, “Fathers and Sons” and others.
