Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko held a working meeting with the head of the Altai Republic, Andrey Turchak. They discussed issues of education and sports development in the region.

“As our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin noted, the Altai Republic is a very promising region with good development potential. Under the ‘Zemsky Teacher’ program of the ‘Youth and Children’ national project, teachers are moving to rural schools, most of whom are young specialists under 35 years old. Construction of a new modular swimming pool is ongoing in the village of Maima. And within the framework of the ‘Tourism and Hospitality’ national project, a modern and comfortable tourist infrastructure is being created in the region, meeting the needs of residents not only in the republican center but also in the municipalities,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

He noted that under the national project “Youth and Children,” 9 schools in the Altai Republic were opened after major renovations before the new school year. The “IT Cube” center, as well as school, children’s, and mobile “Quantorium” technology parks, are functioning.

In the region, sports halls and playgrounds have been repaired and equipped in 131 schools. In the city of Gorno-Altaysk, construction continues on the new building of the republican classical lyceum. This year, the renovation of the student dormitory of the Gorno-Altaysk Polytechnic College named after M.Z. Gnezdilov – the base organization for the “Tourism and Services” cluster within the framework of the federal project “Professionalism” – has been completed.

The Head of the Altai Republic, Andrey Turchak, reported that during the admission campaign for the 2026/2027 academic year, 7,700 applications were submitted to the colleges of the region, of which 6,700 were for budget-funded places. The largest number of applications were submitted in the following fields: tourism and hospitality, car repair and maintenance technician, welder, nursing, cook, and confectioner.

During the summer wellness campaign, the camp was visited by more than 11 thousand children, including 4 thousand children in difficult life situations and 1 thousand children of SVO participants. 82 inclusive sessions were held for children with disabilities and disabled children.

Dmitry Chernyshenko and Andrey Turchak paid special attention to the development of sports in the region. The level of provision of citizens with sports facilities is 62.8%. The head of the republic noted that with the support of the Government of Russia, the subject is actively developing sports infrastructure.

“Physical fitness and wellness complexes, sports grounds, and GTO sites are appearing in various districts of the republic. Last year, a physical fitness complex was opened in the village of Ulagan and the ‘Sartakpay’ sports complex in Onguday was reconstructed. This year, we will complete a physical fitness complex in Chemal and the republic’s second swimming pool in Mayma. Thanks to participation in state programs, we plan to build modern physical fitness and wellness complexes for residents in every district center,” emphasized Andrey Turchak.
