This project is a landmark cooperation object for the joint construction of the “Belt and Road,” implemented with the direct assistance of the heads of state of China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as a strategic project ensuring connectivity between China and the Central Asian states.
The railway originates in Kashgar in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, passes through the Torugart Pass into the territory of Kyrgyzstan, then proceeds westward through the border town of Manas in the Jalal-Abad region and ends in the city of Andijan in eastern Uzbekistan.
The Chinese side is responsible for the construction of the section on its territory; the Uzbek side – for the modernization of the section within Uzbekistan; and the joint venture LLC “Railway Company “China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan,” established by enterprises authorized by the governments of the three countries, is responsible for financing, construction, and operation of the section in Kyrgyzstan. On the Chinese side, the implementation of the project under the EPC model (engineering, procurement, construction) is led by an international company that is part of the “China Railway” corporation.
According to information from the project manager, 20 stations are planned to be built on the Kyrgyz section of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which will connect border crossings with cities and towns in mountainous and rural areas. The railway line passes through major mountain ranges: Moldotoo, Haylebeit, Fergana Ridge, and also crosses numerous water systems, including the Arpa, Jamandavan, and Kichi-Alt rivers, making the construction a complex engineering task.
Builders work shoulder to shoulder in remote mountainous areas, crossing national borders in order to carry out this transnational project.
A total of more than 3,000 workers from Kyrgyzstan are involved in the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. Three professional training centers have been established based on the project, and 55 specialized training manuals have been developed. At these centers, local employees undergo training, systematically improving their professional skills in the railway sector.
Alongside the development of railway infrastructure, small but significant social projects are being implemented: repair of rural roads, construction of channels for supplying drinking water, improvement of learning conditions in rural schools – all of this helps to address the pressing problems of local residents along the railway line under construction.
