Qingdao, September 10 /Xinhua/ — The death toll from the fire on a foreign cargo ship that occurred at a shipyard in the city of Qingdao /Shandong Province, East China/ has risen to 25 people. This was reported by local authorities on Thursday evening.
Rescuers found all 25 people who were initially reported missing without signs of life.
According to the city fire and rescue service, the fire broke out around 11:15 on a vessel undergoing maintenance at the shipyard of Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., which is a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
There were 42 people on board. 12 people were successfully evacuated, and five others were injured and taken to the hospital. Their condition is reported as stable.
The fire was extinguished around 14:30.
