Hong Kong, September 10 /Xinhua/ — The 11th Belt and Road Summit opened on Wednesday in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region /HKSAR/, with more than 6,000 officials and business leaders from over 70 countries and regions participating.
In a world undergoing unprecedented changes and facing geopolitical fragmentation, what the “Belt and Road” initiative offers – interconnectedness, cooperation, and consensus – is of great importance, said Lee Jiaqiao, head of the SAR administration of Hong Kong, speaking at the event.
“The Belt and Road Initiative is not a map of the past, but a master plan for the future. And it is in Xianggang that we are bringing this future to life,” he said.
In 2025, the volume of trade between Xianggang and the countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative grew by almost 17 percent and amounted to about 323 billion US dollars. Nearly 1,500 companies from the countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative have opened their offices in Xianggang.
On the first day of the summit, a total of 32 memoranda of understanding and agreements were signed, concerning finance, professional services, and construction.
