Beijing, September 9 /Xinhua/ — From January to August 2026, the resort island province of Hainan in southern China received a total of 512 thousand Russian tourists, which is 68.8 percent more compared to the same period last year. This was reported by the newspaper “Hainan Daily” citing statistical data from local authorities.
The publication specifically noted that in the first eight months of this year, Hainan has already received more tourists from Russia than in the entire year of 2025. Russia ranks first as the main inbound tourist destination for the tropical island province.
Currently, there are direct flights between Hainan Province and 11 Russian cities, including Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Kazan. More than 20 direct flights from Russia to Hainan are operated weekly.
Data show that in January-August of the current year, Hainan received a total of 1.299 million foreign tourists, which is 44.4% more year-on-year. In particular, during the reporting period, about 36 thousand tourists from Belarus visited the island, an increase of 127% year-on-year. -0-
