Beijing, September 9 /Xinhua/ — China never “pulls up the ladder” for the development of any country, said Mao Ning, official spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, reaffirming that China will remain a reliable partner for other countries of the Global South.
The Chinese diplomat made this statement at the latest departmental press conference, commenting at the request of the media on claims that China supposedly cares only about its own development while “kicking away the ladder” for the development of other Global South countries.
China, as noted by Mao Ning, is committed to the cause of “providing ladders” for other countries. She recalled that through the joint construction of the “Belt and Road,” China supplies industrial equipment and technological products with the optimal price-quality ratio and offers a zero-tariff regime.
The pursuit of mutual benefit and shared success is the defining value of China’s external cooperation, she continued.
The so-called rhetoric of “taking away the ladder” does not resonate among Global South countries. China will always adhere to the principle of mutual benefit and common gains and will contribute to the revival of the Global South through its own development, noted the official representative of China’s foreign affairs department.
