Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam, his wife Ngo Phuong Ly, Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, Rector of the All-Russian State University of Cinematography named after S.A. Gerasimov (VGIK) Vladimir Malyshev participated in the opening ceremony of the Ngo Manh Lan Russian-Vietnamese Heritage Hall at VGIK.

“As emphasized by the President of Russia Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, a substantive, open dialogue between our countries is ongoing in all areas, including, of course, culture. And today here, at the All-Russian State University of Cinematography, we are opening the Hall of Russian-Vietnamese Cultural Heritage. It is dedicated to the outstanding artist, animator, film director Ngo Manh Lan, a graduate of VGIK. It is a great joy for all of us that within the walls of the main forge of film figures in Russia there is now a space dedicated to the rich creative heritage of the People’s Artist of Vietnam,” noted Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed special gratitude to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, for, despite his busy schedule, being able to participate together with his wife Ngo Phuong Ly in the opening ceremony of the Russian-Vietnamese Heritage Hall named after Ngo Manh Lan.

“We are convinced that the Hall of Russian-Vietnamese Cultural Heritage will become a bright symbol of friendship between our countries, a place of attraction for everyone interested in Vietnamese culture. It will contribute to the further strengthening of humanitarian cooperation between Russia and Vietnam,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.

He thanked everyone involved in this unique project and wished them creative success and inspiration.

General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, thanked the federal agencies, the leadership of VGIK, the faculty, and everyone who participated in the opening of the new cultural space. He also noted that cultural values should be closely interconnected, penetrating all spheres of society’s life and becoming a true soft power of the state in the new era.

“Heritage truly lives only when it continues through creativity, friendship is truly strong only when it is passed on through sincere and living experience to the next generations. It is exactly in this way that we can best inherit the condition of our predecessors, give new momentum to the relations between our countries, and make cooperation in culture, humanities, and people’s diplomacy a genuinely strategic and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation. I wish our strategic partnership continuous, deep, and sustainable development,” emphasized To Lam.

Participants of the ceremony toured the Hall of Russian-Vietnamese Cultural Heritage named after Ngo Manh Lan. They became acquainted with objects of national culture, photo and multimedia content demonstrating Russian-Vietnamese creative exchanges from the mid-20th century to the present. The space features 7 exhibitions dedicated to traditional and contemporary Vietnamese culture, friendship and creative cooperation between Russia and Vietnam, and the role of VGIK in developing humanitarian ties between the countries.

Note that Ngo Manh Lan is one of the founders of Vietnamese animation, an outstanding animator, screenwriter, associate professor, children’s book illustrator, and People’s Artist of Vietnam. In 1956, he became one of the first Vietnamese students sent to study in the USSR, graduated with honors from VGIK in 1962, and defended his PhD thesis on animation art there in 1984. During his career, he created 17 films as a director and 5 as an artist, working at the Vietnam Animation Studio.
