Urumqi, September 5 /Xinhua/ — At an experimental watermelon cultivation base in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Nurzoda Nazar, dean of the Faculty of Hydromelioration at the Tajik Agrarian University, is conducting a systematic comparative analysis of the differences in yield and quality between hybrid Chinese watermelon varieties harvested this year and local traditional varieties, promptly transmitting the obtained data to a scientific team from China located thousands of kilometers away.
In January of this year, N. Nazar returned to his homeland after completing a one-year internship at the State Demonstration Zone for Agricultural Production using New High Technologies, located in Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture /Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Northwest China/, where he conducted in-depth research on improving the quality of fruit and berry crops and high-efficiency cultivation technologies.
In his opinion, the results of scientific research cooperation in the agricultural sector between China and Tajikistan play an important demonstrative and guiding role in the transformation and modernization of Tajikistan’s agriculture.
In recent years, Xinjiang, aiming to pave the “golden path” across the Eurasian continent and create a channel for openness to the west, has been steadily expanding high-level openness to the outside world, establishing regular and systematic mechanisms for exchanges in agricultural science and technology with Central Asian countries, promoting the formation of a cooperation model based on mutual technology exchange, scientific interaction, and joint utilization of results.
According to the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, since the establishment of the China/Xinjiang-Central Asia Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance in September 2025, efforts have been focused on key areas such as smart agriculture, germplasm resources, energy-saving irrigation, saline soil reclamation, and green low-carbon technologies, which has contributed to the consistent implementation of a series of scientific and technological achievements—high-yield cotton cultivation, preservation of the freshness of vegetables and fruits, energy-saving irrigation—beyond Xinjiang in Central Asian countries.
Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Shadman Namazov has been actively engaged for many years in developing cooperation between China and Uzbekistan in the field of scientific innovations in agriculture and has repeatedly visited Xinjiang to conduct scientific exchanges and establish research links. He noted that the creation of cross-border joint scientific and innovative platforms has served as a bridge for exchanging experience and knowledge between researchers of the two countries, significantly broadened Uzbekistan’s international agricultural science outlook, and gave new impetus to the modernization of the local agricultural sector.
A multi-level and multi-dimensional system of cross-border scientific and innovative platforms has created a long-term cooperation mechanism in agriculture between Xinjiang and Central Asian countries. In the State Demonstration Zone for Agricultural Production Using New High Technologies in Changji, not only has a mechanism for long-term mutual visits been established between China and the agricultural research institutes of Central Asian countries, but foreign scientists are also regularly hosted to implement cross-border scientific projects, as well as master’s and doctoral students from Central Asian countries. Bilingual technical specialists are purposefully dispatched to Chinese agricultural enterprises abroad.
He Wengqing, Deputy Director of the Western Agricultural Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, noted that the continuous deepening of the production-education integration for the agricultural modernization of “China-Central Asia” has effectively removed barriers to cooperation between universities, research institutes, and agricultural enterprises in China and Central Asian countries, created a comprehensive system of agricultural innovation and industrial cooperation, contributed to improving the quality and efficiency of the region’s export-oriented agricultural economy, and continues to contribute to deepening practical cooperation in the agricultural sector between China and Central Asia. -0-
