September 5 is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Charity. For many participants of Moscow fairs and the ‘Moscow — on the Wave’ project, this is a special date: they regularly provide assistance to those in need.
Apples for border regions
In mid-August, on the eve of the Apple Feast Day, buyers and farmers gathered more than 400 kilograms of fresh fruits at six city markets. In Rus’, on this day, it was traditional to harvest crops for winter stocks, share apples with each other, and give to those in need. Moscow’s markets continued this tradition. The collected fruits were sent to border regions with the help of volunteers from the “Moscow Helps” project, where they were distributed among nursing homes, orphanages, and family support centers.

Products for those in need
In July, participants of Moscow fairs donated more than a ton of food to the charitable foundation “Donate Food.” The campaign united farmers and local producers from 15 regions of Russia. The humanitarian aid included fresh vegetables, as well as cereals, pasta, flour, sugar, salt, vegetable oil, and canned vegetables and mushrooms. Using these products, the foundation’s chefs prepared hot meals for people in difficult life situations.
Canned food, honey, and equipment for special military operation fighters
In February, a charity event was held at the “Moscow – on the wave” fish markets dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day. Visitors purchased canned seafood for servicemen in the special military operation (SMO) zone: mackerel, vendace, sprats, anchovies, sprats, sand smelt, and other fish.
Collected products were delivered to headquarters “Moscow Helps”. The canned goods were sorted and handed over to organizations for sending to the front line. Such products are convenient in field conditions: they are easy to transport and can be stored for a long time.
Charity for the participants of the Moscow fairs is not a one-time event. Many farmers regularly support the fighters of the special military operation.
Thus, Irina from the Volgograd region, a participant of the Moscow fair and a third-generation beekeeper, has been sending products from her apiary to the frontline with her family for two years: linden, buckwheat, acacia, chestnut, coriander, and fireweed honey, as well as natural beeswax. In addition, the farmer supplies trench candles and essential items. Honey has a long shelf life, and wax candles provide warmth and steady light.

Another participant of the Moscow fair — Vladimir from Smolensk region — sends 40 tons of humanitarian aid to the SVO zone every two months: warm clothes, food, equipment, and building materials. He personally accompanies the shipments, traveling 4,500 kilometers in 72 hours. Vladimir provides targeted assistance: soldiers make lists of needed items, and volunteers and partners distribute the purchases. In addition, as a volunteer, he visits about 200 children and supplies food to 11 schools and seven kindergartens in his district.
There are many similar examples. Every 10th farmer at Moscow fairs helps — and does so systematically. Some independently collect and send targeted parcels, others hand over vegetables and fruits they have personally grown through charitable foundations, and still others buy construction tools, medicines, or improved equipment upon request.
Daily care
At the fish markets “Moscow — On the Wave,” care for those who serve and those in need of support is not a one-time event but a constant practice. A 15 percent discount applies to participants of the special military operation and their family members throughout the markets’ operating hours, while for large families and pensioners, it applies from Monday to Thursday between 10:00 and 13:00.
Moscow fairs and fish markets “Moscow — on the wave” are places where city residents can purchase quality and fresh products from all over the country. At the fairs, where spaces are provided free of charge, goods are brought in from more than 40 regions of Russia. At the fish markets in Mitino and Kosino-Ukhtomsky, products from key fishing regions — from Karelia to Kamchatka — are presented.
