Studying cells and traces
What are plants made of? How are their cells structured? Why do tree trunks consist of many rings? Children will learn about this and much more at the workshop “Plants Under the Microscope”, which will be held at the State Darwin Museum.
In addition, participants will look at the world under a microscope themselves: they will see cells, tissues, and the tiniest structures performing important functions. They will learn the difference between a vacuole and cytoplasm and why a cell wall is needed. Children under 10 years old can participate in the class accompanied by adults.
You can learn how to distinguish between wild boar and roe deer hoof prints in classes “Who left the trace?”. A forest is a home for animals and birds, most of which do not seek to be seen by humans. But sometimes during a walk, one can see their messages on the ground — traces of hooves or paws. Photographers specializing in wildlife and researchers use these to navigate.
In the classes, participants will learn what the habitats of rodents, foxes, hares, and bears look like, what gnawed cones, fruits, and tree trunks signify. Every trace is a real natural code, which is interesting to decipher even for the most experienced zoologist and paleontologist.
Seeds, mushrooms, and spiders — what do they have in common?
A series of educational master classes “The World Under a Microscope” will be held in the “Severnoe Tushino” park. Participants of the “Seeds” session will learn about the structure of beans, methods of germination, and spreading with the help of wind and water. In addition, children will be able to germinate seeds themselves, starting at the workshop and continuing at home.
In the class “Diversity of Fungi,” young biologists will be able to observe yeast swelling and mold reproduction, learn how fungi differ from plants, and examine fungal threads — mycelium — under a microscope.
And what about the world of arthropods? Some of its most amazing representatives are spiders, possessors of delicate legs and creators of intricate webs capable of catching even the most cunning flies. Participants of the master class “Invisible Secrets of Spiders” will uncover mysteries and learn many useful facts. For example, they will be told about the different patterns on the abdomens of various spider species and how their webs are woven. Children will also hear the most common myths about insects and share their own associations with them.
The pinnacle of creation
Studying the natural world and the entire diversity of the planet, it is impossible to overlook the most complex structure of a human being. Scientists still face many questions and mysteries. For example, how is the human brain organized? How is it possible that the fingerprint patterns on the pads of the fingers never repeat? And why do humans have only four blood groups?
At the workshop “How a Human Works” At the scientific and educational center “Zapovednoe Posolstvo” in Zaryadye Park, children learn how the human body is structured, what the senses are, and how the circulatory and digestive systems work. Children under 10 years old can attend the classes only with their parents.
In classes “In the Spotlight” Participants will be able to lift another veil of mystery into the world of studying human nature. They will examine the structure of the eye in detail, learn what the retina consists of, and what a pupil is. Children under 10 years old can attend the session only with parents.
Getting to Know Animals Through Art
The Moscow Zoo runs many programs for children, where they can get closer to the world of fauna through drawing, painting, and sculpture, as well as learn what animalistic art is. Among the domestic representatives of animalistic art are well-known artists Vasily Vatagin, Konstantin Flerov, Alexey Komarov, Valentin Serov, and Yevgeny Charushin. They were able to subtly convey the character and manner of movement of the animal, reflecting the inner state of a bear, lynx, or bird.
