The Moscow Palace of Pioneers on Vorobyovy Gory summed up the results of the summer city and offsite sessions of the educational project “Profile Quarter.” More than three thousand Moscow schoolchildren participated in them. The program included practical classes, creative workshops, thematic games, meetings with teachers and mentors. This was reported by the press service of the city Department of Education and Science.
“This summer, more than 2,500 schoolchildren participated in the five city sessions of the Moscow Palace of Pioneers. More than 550 children also joined three off-site sessions held at the ‘Komanda’ educational center in the Moscow region. Young Muscovites engaged in creative activities, explored the world around them, got acquainted with professions, and worked on their own projects,” the agency’s press service reported.
City shifts took place at four venues of the Moscow Palace of Pioneers. Schoolchildren tried themselves in various fields — from geography and biology classes to theater, music, and project activities. The children learned to make decisions independently, work as a team, and bring an idea to fruition. For example, during the “Beyond the Horizon” shift, schoolchildren got acquainted with the geography, traditions, and customs of the peoples of Russia and the world, as well as learned to read maps, create their own travel notes, and plan trips.
Participants of the “Toy Corporation” session learned how dolls and figurines have changed in Russian culture, created rag dolls and clay toys, and then came up with characters and their own stories for them. During the “Brandmania” session, schoolchildren studied the basics of personal branding, developed a corporate style, and learned how to present their ideas. The result of their work was their own projects and portfolios.
During the “Chronosphere” session, the participants traveled through historical eras, deciphered secret messages, created pictograms and family crests, and also learned to navigate by the stars. At the end of the session, the participants presented projects that combined knowledge of the past and ideas about the future.
The “Catch the Rhythm” shift introduced schoolchildren to musical and stage professions. The kids engaged in singing, dancing, and acting skills, tried their hand at choreography and sound engineering, formed musical and dance teams, and also prepared a final show.
Off-site sessions at the educational center “Team” gave schoolchildren the opportunity to create creative and natural science projects, as well as to decide on their future profession. At the “Debut” session, participants presented their own stage performances.
“We had a lot of fun coming up with an interesting script, then choosing roles, costumes, and looks. And we really bonded, especially when we started to rush or improvise. I really liked the warmth and atmosphere of this session,” shared Natalia Kuznetsova, a ninth-grade student at school No. 2086.
At the “Microworld” shift, the children explored plants, insects, and fungi. The students collected herbariums, studied butterflies and beetles, worked with microscopes, and completed creative tasks focused on ecology and biology.
The “Polis” career change program helped participants choose a profession and career path. The guys got acquainted with a wide range of fields — from engineering and technical to creative and social specialties, identified their interests and strengths, and also learned to connect hobbies with the prospect of a future profession.
The “Profile Quarter” project based at the Moscow Palace of Pioneers on Vorobyovy Gory began in 2015. It helps schoolchildren broaden their horizons, reveal talents, and get acquainted with areas that can become the foundation for their future education and career choices.
