On the sidelines of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum, Deputy Prime Minister and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev met with the First Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Nyo So.

“Dear Mr. Nyo So, dear colleagues, I am pleased to welcome you to Vladivostok at the Eastern Economic Forum. I want to thank you for your attention and interest in our country. This is your second visit to Russia this year. Today, representatives from about 80 countries have gathered here in Vladivostok on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University. I hope that the meetings in the format of the Eastern Economic Forum will be useful for you. I also want to thank you and the leadership of Myanmar for supporting the policy of the Russian Federation,” opened the meeting Yuri Trutnev.

At the bilateral meeting, issues of developing cooperation between Russia and Myanmar in the Far East in various fields were raised, including helicopter manufacturing and the use of railway equipment, in the fisheries sector, education and healthcare, logistics and tourism. Strengthening humanitarian and cultural ties was separately considered.

“The Far East is the fastest developing region of our country. The area of the macroregion is about 40% of Russia’s territory. The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, has designated the development of the Far East as a national priority for the entire 21st century. We are fulfilling the tasks set by the President: enterprises are being built, city infrastructure is being modernized, and the best conditions are being created for residents,” said Yuri Trutnev.

The First Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Nyo So, expressed gratitude for the welcome extended to the delegation during the bilateral negotiations and the invitation to participate in the Eastern Economic Forum: “The President of our country attaches great importance to this forum. He sent me to participate in it. We see that the Eastern Economic Forum is an important platform not only for discussing economic challenges but also for discussing topics of global politics. Our Government is committed to expanding cooperation to further strengthen friendship between the countries. Our President recently completed a visit to the Russian Federation and extensively discussed issues of bilateral interaction with your President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. The responsible officials of both countries must successfully and promptly implement these agreements.”

According to Nyo So, the Far East can become a successful platform for mutual cooperation between the two countries: “Our Government is planning to open a consulate general of our country in Vladivostok. I would also like to ask for assistance in this opening and request your support.”

In turn, Yuri Trutnev expressed his willingness to provide support in resolving this issue. “We will be happy to work on the opening of the Consulate General of the Union of Myanmar in Vladivostok,” he said.

Following the meeting, Yuri Trutnev instructed the governor of Primorsky Krai to find premises for placing a diplomatic mission: “We support this proposal. I gave the instruction to Oleg Nikolaevich Kozhemyako. I think that the rector of FEFU, Boris Nikolaevich Korobets, will also look at options. Some part of the university remains outside Russky Island, so we can look there.”
