The second eco-center has opened in Moscow’s Presnensky District, where residents will be taught separate waste collection and organized secondary raw materials reception. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement. Petr Biryukov.
“The city has had a waste sorting program operating for seven years now, and the achieved results confirm its effectiveness. The volumes of collected recyclables remain at a high level, so a decision was made to open a second city environmental center of the regional operator on Zvenigorodskoye Highway in support of the program,” noted Petr Biryukov.
The first eco-center appeared in the south of the capital last year and has already proven its demand among residents. In just six months, it was visited by more than four thousand people who handed in over 20 tons of recyclable materials.
According to Petr Biryukov, the main task of the new centers is ecological education of city residents and involving them in the separate waste collection program. They hold free thematic events, lectures, and workshops there.
In addition, it is possible to recycle several dozen types of secondary raw materials, such as paper, plastic containers, bottles, canisters, aluminum and tin cans, hazardous waste — batteries and whole mercury thermometers.
Information stands in eco-centers display sorting rules and useful tips, information about recycling cycles of various materials, and items made from recycled waste. For young guests, books and board games are prepared in the educational area.
Head of the capital’s urban infrastructure complex emphasized the importance of implementing the separate waste collection program, reminding that participation in it remains voluntary.
