Modern playgrounds are an important part of a comfortable city. They include play and sports areas with interactive and educational elements. Such places help a child develop mentally, physically, and creatively. They also make the city more convenient for pedestrians, enliven public spaces, and create an atmosphere in which families enjoy living, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said.
“Creating a quality living environment starts with caring for the smallest ones. We see how important comfortable and safe leisure time with children is for people, so we are systematically expanding the play infrastructure in cities and towns. Since 2019, within the framework of the federal project “Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment,” more than 10,800 playgrounds have been improved, including 567 that have appeared since the beginning of 2025 — as part of the new national project “Infrastructure for Life.” This year, a total of 317 public spaces with play areas are planned to be renovated, of which 131 facilities have been put into operation. These projects are a contribution to an active and safe future for our families, so that parents and children have more reasons to spend time outdoors usefully,” said Marat Khusnullin.
Modern children’s playgrounds are being actively updated across the country. In the Moscow suburb of Zvenigorod, a zone combining active games and quiet relaxation has appeared in the forest park: there are slides, swings, climbing frames, and the central object – the “Portal” tower with rope bridges and tunnels. The ergonomics and tight tension of the rope bridges make play safe for children of all ages, allowing them to play without the risk of injury or fatigue.
In Krasnoyarsk Krai, in Sharypovo, a giant stegosaurus-shaped complex was built in the “Dinopark.” Its highlight is an artificial volcano that serves both as a slide with a funnel-shaped descent and as a mini climbing wall with holds. Nearby, themed routes have been laid out, and in the warm season, a geyser fountain with lighting will operate, creating a water curtain.
A multi-level aviation-themed complex has been installed in the Volgograd Park of Hero-Pilots: a wide steel slide with a polymer coating, a suspended mesh tunnel “cloud,” and a tower with portholes. A separate area with soft polyurethane foam modules and a hemisphere-hangar is designated for toddlers. The playground is smoothly connected to a pump track for teenagers and is separated from the quiet zone by trees.
In the “Molodezhny” park of the city of Gubkinsky (YNAO), the play areas are divided by age and highlighted with bright designs. Considering the harsh climate, frost-resistant rubber is used here, which retains its elasticity even at low temperatures.
In the Serpukhov park “Pitomnik,” the children’s area was expanded using modular equipment that allows flexible combinations of elements. Sculptures of animals are placed throughout the area – they not only decorate the space but also introduce children to different species of fauna, turning a walk into an educational tour.
“Children’s playgrounds today not only meet the needs of children, but also form a new model of public spaces where nature, play, and communication harmoniously blend, contributing to the development of the urban environment and enhancing its attractiveness. Therefore, all improvement projects for significant public or yard spaces necessarily include multifunctional children’s zones with clear age differentiation and diverse usage scenarios,” said the Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services, Irek Faizullin.
The federal project “Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment,” launched in 2017 as a party project of “United Russia,” initiates large-scale transformations of the urban environment across the country. During the implementation of the project, about 120 thousand public and courtyard spaces have been improved — these include embankments, pedestrian streets, city squares, parks, observation decks, modern children’s playgrounds, sports, and recreational areas.
