Classes have started at the All-Russian Center for gifted blind children. It opened four years ago on the basis of Boarding School No. 1 for the education and rehabilitation of the blind, which is subordinate to To the Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Moscow.
The fifth anniversary talent selection competition for visually impaired children from across the country has concluded. This year, seven schoolchildren from five cities—Biysk, Kursk, Simferopol, Saint Petersburg, and Moscow—began their classes. In total, 35 talented children took their seats at the center’s desks.
“The main mission of the center is to create a comprehensive educational and rehabilitation trajectory that allows every child to confidently build their future. At the core of the educational process are adapted programs, the Braille system, multisensory methods, personal support, and individual work in small groups. At the same time, special attention is paid to developing skills useful in life: goal-setting, communication building, and coping with difficulties. This comprehensive approach yields sustainable results. We see how children open up: they learn languages, achieve success in creativity and sports, win competitions. And these personal achievements are precisely the main indicator of the effectiveness of this model of education and the work of the center’s team and the entire school,” he noted

Selection into the All-Russian Center is conducted on a competitive basis in two stages. In May, online testing is held simultaneously in all regions of the Russian Federation, taking into account time zones. Tasks presented in a sans-serif font are sent to the regions on the eve of the exam. As part of the testing, children take math, Russian, and English.
In June, the second stage takes place, which is an online interview. The experts at the center evaluate the child’s communication skills as well as their ability to adapt to living conditions in the boarding school. Based on the results of each test, participants receive points. The final admission decision is made taking into account their total score.
Students at the center study the same subjects as their peers in regular schools. The only difference is the format: all educational materials are adapted for children with visual impairments and are produced using Braille. Additionally, the program includes the study of three foreign languages — English, Italian, and French.
After classes, children can attend elective courses and interest clubs, participate in excursions, watch films with audio descriptions for the visually impaired, or engage in sports. Last year, Sergey Sobyanin opened a modern physical fitness and wellness complex here.
At the All-Russian Center, there are also advanced training courses for teachers from other regions on methods of working with blind and visually impaired children.
Students’ Achievements
Shekhoz Nozumbekov, a ninth grader from Vladimir, is passionate about foreign languages, especially Italian. He has repeatedly won competitions in history and has become a prize winner in English, geography, and ecology. Last year, as part of the Moscow team, the boy took a prize-winning place at the All-Russian School Olympiad in the Italian language.
Another student of the center is Arina Demukhamedova from Orenburg. The tenth grader is distinguished by her responsible attitude to studies: she is an honor student, class president, and always achieves her goals. In 2025, the girl won the creative writing contest “Poetics” of the festival of the same name. This academic year, she is due to take the main state exam in history and literature.
The All-Russian Center for Blind Students Who Have Demonstrated Outstanding Academic Abilities was established based on the Boarding School No. 1 for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind in the capital Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population by order of Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation for Social Policy, with the support of the Government of Moscow and the participation of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
