Chengdu, August 29 /Xinhua/ — On Friday, China sent its first independently developed large-capacity F-class gas turbine, designed for overseas operation.
A truck carrying a G50 turbine with a capacity of 50 megawatts (MW), developed by Dongfang Turbine Co., Ltd., departed from Deyang city in Sichuan province (Southwest China) to Kazakhstan.
This delivery is part of a contract signed in November 2025 for the supply of three G50 units for a power generation project in Kazakhstan. It is the first foreign order for a large capacity F-class gas turbine of Chinese design.
Li He, the company’s Deputy General Director, stated that the company will also provide comprehensive service support for these units throughout their entire lifecycle, developing custom components, including air intake systems and rotary systems, to meet local operational requirements.
Large gas turbines are important equipment for power generation and industrial drive.
F-class turbines, the most widely used large gas turbines in the world, operate at temperatures around 1,400 degrees Celsius. Their development requires expert knowledge in more than 100 fields, including heat-resistant alloys, precision casting, and aerodynamics.
In recent years, China has been expanding its capabilities in the production of heavy gas turbines, with independently developed models now covering various power ratings, the maximum of which is 550 MW, said Fan Yu, head of the national laboratory for clean and efficient turbine energy equipment at Dongfang Turbine Co., Ltd.
Exports are carried out against the backdrop of growing global demand for gas turbines, partly due to increased electricity consumption in data centers for artificial intelligence and changes in the global energy structure.
Feng Zhenping, a professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University, noted that China’s complete production chains, operational delivery capabilities, and price competitiveness can help Chinese turbine manufacturers secure stronger positions in the international market. -0-
