In the metal housing of the KAMAZ Forging Plant’s cab, a project was implemented, within the framework of which the efficiency of electric trolley operation was increased.

According to Ilnar Akhiyarov, deputy head of the shop for floor transport operation, the kaizen project primarily involved saving electricity as well as improving the electric trolley’s control system itself – for smoother and easier movement.

The embodiment of the project into reality was undertaken in February of this year by electricians and locksmiths of the floor transport repair and maintenance shop (CRiENT). The modernization affected the EP-011 platform electric trolley. It removed the outdated rheostat-contactor circuit – a group of relays and a rheostat (a device for adjusting current strength). These elements simply burned out and were not subject to repair. Instead, a modern contactless control unit was installed. The floor rheostat “gas” pedal was replaced with a suspended one. The external appearance also changed: the transport was painted bright red (these electric trolleys are usually painted yellow), a “KAMAZ” emblem was applied between the headlights, the inscription “Substitute” was put on, and new comfortable seats were installed. In the future, it is planned to install a hand brake on the electric cart.

The transport carries stamping equipment to the metal superstructure housing; in addition, it goes to the stamping and tool building. The electric trolley is capable of carrying up to three tons and can reach a speed of 22 km/h. During a shift, it covers up to 50 km. One charge at a normal driving pace lasts for a week. To operate this transport, drivers underwent training at the KAMAZ training center – MCPC.

Thanks to the modernization of the transport, battery charge consumption has decreased by 25-30%. The cart has become more maintainable – quarterly maintenance is no longer required since there are no longer any burn-out components. Smooth starts via the traction motor control unit prevent electrolyte boiling and plate damage under peak loads, effectively giving the battery an extra year of life. “By the end of 2026, we will evaluate the effectiveness of this electric trolley. In the future, we also plan to manufacture similar transport.“, – he said Ilnar Akhiyarov.

The modernized electric car at TsRiENT is intended to be used as a substitute in case other electric trolleys fail.
