Nanning, August 29 /Xinhua/ — The Pinglu Canal in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region /South China/ has successfully passed the acceptance inspection upon completion of construction, bringing the project one step closer to the scheduled opening for navigation in September this year, the Pinglu Canal Corporation reported.
The acceptance committee, which included representatives from regional agencies such as the Transport Department, the Maritime Safety Administration, and the Pinlu Canal Corporation, unanimously concluded that the waterway leveling, lock structures, slope reinforcements, and environmental embankments fully comply with the requirements of technical regulations and project documentation, and that the project documentation is complete and well-organized.
The 134.2 km long canal is a key project within the New Western Land-Sea Trade Corridor—a strategic route linking China’s inland regions with ASEAN and other global markets. Construction of this canal began on August 28, 2022, and it is expected to be open for navigation as early as next month. -0-
