Rail transport in Moscow is experiencing a period of rapid development. Today, the ground metro network of the Moscow region consists of four Moscow Central Diameters, 138 stations and 89 city stations. This was stated on his channel in in the messenger “Max” Sergey Sobyanin said.

It is now the most modern and technologically advanced station in Russia. “The Moscow tram has become one of the most in-demand modes of transport. By 2026, the fleet renewal will be fully completed — now modern Russian-made cars operate on all routes,” noted Sergey Sobyanin.

In particular, this year, the fleet was supplemented with 50 “Levyonok-Moscow” trams with autonomous operation, and another 20 “Vityaz-Moscow” trams were modernized and equipped with the corresponding system. In total, there are already 120 autonomous cars operating in the capital, capable of covering part of the route without connection to the contact network.
The implementation of unmanned technologies continues. In 2025, the world’s first unmanned tram began regularly carrying passengers in Moscow. Since its launch, the innovative transport has completed more than 4.2 thousand passenger trips, and including tests, unmanned trams have covered over 46 thousand kilometers across the city. By the end of the year, it is planned to launch 11 more unmanned carriages, increasing their total number to 15. In addition to the first route in Strogino, this transport will start operating on two more routes.

More than 85 percent of tram tracks are separated from car traffic, which led to an 18 percent increase in tram speeds by 2011. In April of this year, the second Moscow tram diameter (T2) was opened, running from Chertanovskaya Metro Station to Novogireevo Station on the fourth Moscow Central Diameter. Its length is 33 kilometers — currently the longest diametrical tram route in the world. On Akademika Sakharov Avenue, between Three Railway Stations Square and Chistoprudny Boulevard, there is a 2.1-kilometer autonomous section. Fifty-one trams operate on the T2 with a six-minute interval.
Since opening, more than six million passengers have used the tunnel. On the busiest days at Terminal 2, there are up to 85,000 trips, and by the end of the year, this figure may reach 90,000.
By the end of the year, the construction of a new tram line along Entuziastov Highway to the Ivanovskoe district, with a length of 8.5 kilometers (double track), is planned to be completed. Trams will run at five-minute intervals — practically the metro standard. It is expected that about 30 thousand passengers per day will use the new line.
