On August 27, the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC held its regular press conference. This year the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) celebrates its 25th anniversary. The official representative of the ministry, Huang Ling, stated that over the course of a quarter-century, China has consistently adhered to the principles of the “Shanghai Spirit,” developing together with SCO partners and sharing the benefits of cooperation with them. Thanks to this, significant results have been achieved in regional economic cooperation.

Juan Lin noted that trade exchanges contribute to improving the quality of life for the population. China’s trade volume with other member states grew from 12.1 billion USD in 2001 to 523.5 billion USD in 2025 and now accounts for 8% of the country’s total foreign trade turnover. The scale of Chinese investments in other member states is also continually expanding: in 2025, the volume of direct investments across all sectors reached 3.3 billion USD.

In addition, the cross-border infrastructure connecting China with other member states is constantly being improved: highways, railways, pipelines. Major projects are actively promoted as well — such as the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which will open new diversified transport corridors to the countries along the route and give an impetus to the development of related industries. Freight trains run steadily and uninterruptedly along the China-Europe route, playing an important role in ensuring the safety and resilience of regional supply chains.
