Since the beginning of the summer holidays, the ancient city of Dali in Yunnan Province has been experiencing the peak tourist season. During the day, tourists stroll through the streets and alleys of the ancient city, getting acquainted with the historical architecture and national culture; and at dusk, when the lights are turned on, they admire the night landscapes.
According to the Dali Ancient City Conservation Office, from January to July 2026, the ancient city of Dali received more than 22 million tourists. Included among the first 24 cities with a rich cultural and historical heritage, the ancient city of Dali traces its history back to the city of Yangzhuimei and from the Dali period of the Tang dynasty (618-907) until the Zhiyuan period of the Yuan dynasty (1206-1368), remaining the political, economic, and cultural center of Yunnan province. The layout of “nine streets and eighteen alleys” gradually took shape and has been preserved to this day.
