In the capital, applications for the competition have begun to be accepted “Heritage in the Lens”, organized By the Moscow Department of Cultural Heritage. Everyone aged 18 and over who is interested in photography and the cultural heritage of Moscow can participate.
Participants are invited to capture images of the city’s cultural heritage sites. The lens may include historic buildings and structures, monuments, memorials, bridges, fountains, and park gazebos.
“The ‘Heritage in Focus’ competition is designed to draw attention to the city’s historical and cultural heritage, giving participants the opportunity to convey through photography the grandeur of architectural monuments and the elegance of their details. Moscow, over its many centuries of history, has brought together a whole palette of architectural styles — from Russian ornamentation to Soviet avant-garde. But in the city’s hustle and bustle, we often do not notice what surrounds us, so participating in this competition is an excellent reason to slow down, examine the monuments of history and culture that are very close by, and share their beauty with others,” noted the head of the Moscow Department of Cultural Heritage
Contest entries will be accepted in five categories. The photographers’ task is to reflect the evolution and uniqueness of the capital’s architecture, to convey the spirit of old Moscow within the vast metropolis. An original perspective is encouraged — experimenting with angles and creative presentations of familiar objects is welcome.
In the category “Look into OKNo,” artistic photographs of the capital’s cultural heritage sites will be presented — from their unique details and postcard views to unexpected angles and play of lighting.
The main subject of the photos in the category “Capital Movement — Epic and Cultural” will be a person within the space of cultural heritage objects. Their relationship with the historical architecture of the metropolis should be conveyed through the frame.
In the category “From Past to Future,” participants are invited to demonstrate how the monuments of Moscow are integrated into the city’s modern appearance, highlighting the contrast between historical details and contemporary elements and meanings.
This year’s new category is “History in Stone.” Participants are expected to submit photographs of monuments, memorials, and urban sculptures dedicated to events and figures who have played an important role in the country’s history.
The focus of the “Heritage with an Effect” category is cultural heritage sites transformed using filters, unusual special effects, editing, or other artistic processing.
Only one frame can be submitted per category. Photographs can be taken with a digital camera, smartphone, or film camera. Materials may be edited, but without distorting the historical appearance.
The submission of works will continue until October 19 of this year inclusive. Applications can be submitted at official competition website. The winners will be determined by an expert jury. They will be awarded diplomas and memorable prizes.
Photographic materials and other information about Moscow’s cultural heritage are also available in the new section “Cultural Heritage” in the city media bank “Mosphoto.”
