At the KAMAZ Innovation Center, a domestic program for calculating gear engagements called “CAD-33” (Computer-Aided Design system) is being developed.

According to the project authors, in the modern world, the foundation of various mechanisms and assemblies remains the gear transmission, which changes the torque. The calculation of gear meshing is not a simple selection from thick reference books, but a multifactor iterative process carried out using heavy and expensive CAE programs. At the same time, the specialist performing the calculations must have knowledge in many disciplines. “When implementing our projects, we encountered the fact that in Russia there are very few equipment manufacturers capable of realizing advanced structural solutions in the field of gear transmissions, such as modifications and non-standard profiles. For this reason, designers use foreign software, – explained Project Manager of “CAD-33”“Sergey Ryabev.” – The same story applies to gear cutting tools. Mostly, Russian companies offer a foreign equivalent, and its delivery takes too long.“.

After studying foreign tools and programs, the Innovation Center “KAMAZ” decided that the accumulated experience needed to be systematized and compiled. This is when the idea to create the “CAD-33” application arose. Here, one can calculate the geometric parameters and control dimensions of cylindrical gears, build their profiles in 2D and 3D. It is possible to perform strength calculations of the gear engagement, as well as select the optimal value for it. The creation of a preliminary processing tool for a non-standard profile is also available.

The application will reduce design time by 40-60%, minimize errors at this stage, lower the initial qualification requirements for engineers, improve the quality of the tool and part processing, and produce documentation that takes into account the specifics of tool manufacturing. The developers believe that the application itself may interest designers who design transmissions and gearboxes, technologists of gear processing productions, tool designers, and manufacturers.
