Gyerong /Sichuan/, August 27 /Xinhua/ — All residents of villages adjacent to the landslide-affected checkpoint on the China-Nepal border in the Sichuan Autonomous Region /Southwest China/ have been evacuated, local authorities reported.
A mudflow that originated on the Nepalese side struck the Gyirong border crossing in the eponymous county of Shigatse City Prefecture on Wednesday morning. Preliminary data indicate that three people died and 558 more are missing, including 260 foreign nationals.
After the landslide, more than 300 residents of several villages located near the checkpoint were evacuated to safe locations in Gyirong County with the assistance of rescue personnel from Sichuan border control services. -0-
