Service “Mospitomets” Together with the capital’s chain of pet stores, they have prepared gift sets for people who decided to take a dog or cat home from city shelters. The first 400 new owners will receive them.
“Today, more and more Muscovites are choosing pets from shelters, and the city actively supports this kind tradition. The joint initiative of the ‘Mospitomec’ service and the ‘Four Paws’ pet store chain is aimed at easing the adaptation of four-legged family members in their new home. These kits are a wonderful starter support for new owners. The contents depend on the type of animal and its age — separate kits are provided for dogs and cats,” noted the press service
In the cat kit, new owners will receive dry and wet food, a cream soup for balanced nutrition, as well as a scratching post, a ball with feathers, a bowl, and cleanup bags. The dog kit includes dry and canned food, lamb meat sausages, a bowl, and a toy. Additionally, owners will find useful care and hygiene products: shampoo, a fur remover brush, wipes, and a bamboo dispenser with cleanup bags.
Gift boxes are shaped like little houses and can be a great resting place for cats and small dogs.
The presentation of the sets will take place on August 27 at the festival “Mospitomec × Four-Legged Friend” on Tverskoy Boulevard within the framework of the project “Summer in Moscow”. They will be available to guests who choose a pet from those presented at the adoption exhibition.
Gift sets have already begun to be distributed at the shelters for homeless animals “Zelenograd” and “Zoorassvet”, as well as at the shelters for homeless dogs “Maly” and “Bolshoy”. Subsequently, they will be distributed in all 13 city shelters of the capital.
“We want to support those who made the difficult decision to take a pet from a shelter and make the process of adapting the animal to the home comfortable and easy. These gift sets include everything necessary for a dog or cat to quickly settle in. They provide owners with the basic minimum of items for pet care during the first days of acquaintance,” noted a representative of the Four Paws pet store chain.
Today, there are 13 city shelters for homeless animals operating in Moscow. In October 2025, on the initiative of the capital urban utility complex and Department of Information Technology of the City of Moscow a service appeared on mos.ru “Mospitomec”. The project is aimed at fostering a culture of responsible attitude towards animals and helping city residents who have decided to give a home to a four-legged friend.
The project website features over 1,500 animal profiles from all urban shelters in the capital. Each ward’s card in the service catalog includes a photo, age, size, and character traits. Additionally, a special test is available to help determine which animal is suitable for the future owner. All shelter pets are microchipped and vaccinated, allowing for taking home an animal fully prepared to move into a family.
After the prospective owner chooses a pet and fills out the electronic form, shelter staff will contact them to arrange a convenient time for a meeting. If, after the meeting, the person decides to take the pet home, they will be asked to sign a responsible pet ownership agreement, which outlines the rights and obligations of the owner. The future owner has three days to make a final decision and prepare for the animal’s arrival at the new home.
