Urban transport in Moscow is becoming increasingly popular. From January to July 2026, a total of 2.46 billion trips were made using all its types. This is 76 million more than in the same period in 2025. This was reported on his channel in in the messenger “Max” reported Sergey Sobyanin.

This is the result of systematic work within the framework of the Moscow transport system development strategy,” the Mayor of Moscow wrote on his channel in the messenger ‘Max’.

At the same time, the number of private cars on the capital’s roads has decreased. While there were an average of 2.7 million per day in 2025, the figure dropped to 2.6 million in 2026.
The greatest increase in passenger traffic was recorded on tram routes. The daily volume of trips increased from 690,000 to 900,000. This result is associated with the development of Moscow tram diameters — in particular, with the launch of the second diameter (T2), as well as with the completion of the rolling stock renewal.
The growth in passenger traffic confirms the reliability, predictability, and demand of the urban transport system. All measures laid out in the Moscow transport development strategy are being fully implemented.
“We will continue implementing projects in this area with a focus on quality and safety. Our goal is to provide the most comfortable and accessible urban transport for all residents and guests of the capital,” noted Sergey Sobyanin.

It is forecast that by 2027 the share of trips on urban transport will exceed 70 percent of the total number of trips within the capital. This figure will be higher than the 2019 level (before the COVID-19 pandemic), when due to the epidemiological situation the share of trips by private cars temporarily increased.
