On August 27, a special program dedicated to Russian Cinema Day will be presented at the “Moscow Model” pavilion at VDNKh. Visitors will see how the capital has changed over the eras and how the city became one of the main characters in domestic films. At 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00, there will be a video tour “Moscow in Cinema.” Each session will last 35 minutes. The program features footage from famous Soviet and Russian films that depict the capital in various historical periods—from postwar streets to the modern metropolis.
“Cinema helps to see a familiar city in a new light and to notice how much it has changed over the decades. Through films, one can trace not only the history of Moscow but also its mood during different periods — through architecture, streets, transport, and the usual rhythm of city dwellers’ lives. Today, the capital continues to develop while preserving iconic places. Therefore, Moscow remains a natural backdrop for new stories and appears on screen in a variety of images,” noted Vladislav Ovchinsky.
The tour program includes “Foundling,” “I Walk Through Moscow,” “Office Romance,” “Moscow, My Love,” and other films. They are united not only by an engaging plot but also by the capital itself, which gradually ceases to be just a backdrop and becomes an independent character.
Each decade in cinema has its own Moscow. In the 1930s, it appears grand and ceremonial; in the 1960s, light and romantic; in the 1980s, businesslike and energetic; and in the 1990s it takes on a more contrasting character. In the 21st century, the capital appears modern, dynamic, and visually diverse, combining historical spaces with new architecture.
At 12:40, 15:40, and 18:40, guests will be able to test their knowledge in an interactive quiz. This format will allow not only to recall favorite movies but also to pay closer attention to city details that are easy to miss during a regular viewing.
The program will be complemented by lighting shows, which will be presented every 30 minutes, except during the tours. Each session will last about five minutes. This will allow visitors to join the festive program even without prior participation in other events.
