City residents will be able to visit film festival On August 29 at VDNKh. Participants will learn the basics of filmmaking, try on the profession of an actor, take a walk accompanied by an audio guide, and attend lectures.
The amphitheater of the Third Kamensky Pond will turn into an open stage — everyone interested will be able to try themselves as performers. Participants of the master class will get acquainted with the tools of feature films, discover the subtleties of acting craft, learn to convey complex emotions with a hand gesture, and perform the exercise “One gesture — one thought.” Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, they will stage a sketch and analyze the completed assignments. Classes start at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 16:00, and 17:00.
Participants of the “Film Production” master class will be able to create their own film in one day. This is a unique opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in practice. After going through the stages of film production, the host, acting as the director, will assign roles to the participants, and they will head together to an improvised filming set. The guests will learn to set up lighting, capture clean sound, and shoot scenes according to the prepared script. The sessions will take place on the shore of the Third Kamensky Pond on the site in front of the “Glavtabak” pavilion. Start times: 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 16:00, and 17:00.
From 12:00 to 18:00 on the site between the “Golden Ear” fountain and the Cinema Museum, you can feel like a screen star or a popular blogger. The film attraction “Video Spinner 360” with a rotating platform and a 4K camera will be available for guests. The coordinator will provide instructions and start the platform with studio lighting, which will make a full circle while the camera shoots a vertical video. Each participant can download their video for free with the VDNH logo via QR code.
A creative workshop will be held at the children’s cultural and educational center of the Cinema Museum. Participants of the master class will create a movie poster. They will learn a lot about the laws of composition and color, the role of fonts, and then make an original poster for a fictional film using the collage technique with templates and samples. The sessions start at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 16:00, and 17:00.
In the large cinema hall of the Museum of Cinema, guests will also find a full program. At 5:00 PM, a lecture “Special Effects in Soviet Cinema” will begin here. Attendees will learn how the fairy tale film genre appeared in domestic cinema and how the first special effects were created, as well as see examples in clips from films.
At 17:40 there will be a screening of the cult Soviet science fiction film “Moscow-Cassiopeia” (12+), released in 1974 (director — Richard Viktorov). And at 19:00 there will be a lecture “Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Production in Filmmaking.” The speakers will discuss in a public talk format how neural networks are changing all stages of film creation.
In addition, everyone will be able to take a walk accompanied by an audio guide through the iconic pavilions and sites that served as settings for dozens of well-known Soviet and Russian films.

In the Andrei Tarkovsky cinema hall, at 14:00, the interactive event “Fairy Tales in Slide Films” will begin. Olga Shin, the curator of the animation and slide film collections at the Cinema Museum, will tell and show children and their parents what slide films are and what kinds there are, what the frame sketches for them look like, how their viewing was done in the past, and the benefits of such leisure activities.
The Museum of Cinema’s collections carefully preserve original layouts for more than 500 slide films, reflecting the cultural diversity of the peoples of Russia and other countries of the world. Participants in the event will be able to dub the slide film themselves in real time using a microphone.
At 5:30 PM, film scholar Alisa Mamedova will hold a masterclass titled “What Thoughts, What Plots.” Attendees will learn how to watch films by focusing not only on the plot. The host will show several video clips and explain what an opening scene is, why a cinematographer chooses a particular angle, and the significance of sound in cinema.
At 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, as part of a small tour group, you can visit the newly opened exhibition “Cinema Born of Ice and Courage,” supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. It is dedicated to the feat of pioneers, scientists, and sailors who laid the foundations for modern Arctic exploration. Cinema has preserved the image of the Northern heroes: brave directors and cameramen filmed in the harshest conditions, so the footage remains breathtaking.
