Guiyang, August 24 /Xinhua/ — Belarus and the United Kingdom won the championship titles in the women’s and men’s relays respectively at the 2026 Modern Pentathlon World Championship, which began on Monday in the Chinese city of Guiyang /Guizhou Province, Southwest China/.
More than 500 athletes from over 50 countries and regions around the world are participating in the competition taking place in the Huaxi urban district.
Belarus won the women’s relay, scoring 1351 points, ahead of Russia with 1325 points, while Egypt took the bronze.
Great Britain won the men’s relay, earning 1513 points and finishing 19 points ahead of Russia, while Germany took third place.
The participant from Belarus, Anastasia Orel, noted that her team showed high results in all disciplines, especially in fencing and swimming, while she described the running stage as “tough and difficult”.
“In the individual competition, I will try to give my maximum effort,” added A. Orel.
The President of the International Modern Pentathlon Union, Rob Stull, welcomed the athletes in Guyana.
“It is a great honor for us to be here in Guyana, the ‘city of forests’ — a place where natural beauty, history, and innovation combine. This city has become a wonderful stage for the world’s greatest pentathletes,” noted R. Stall.
On August 25, a mixed relay will take place as part of the competitions.
