Beijing, August 25 /Xinhua/ — The 25th meeting of the special representatives of China and India on border issues took place on Tuesday in the Chinese capital. During the meeting, the parties conducted comprehensive, in-depth, friendly, and candid communication on aspects such as border issues and bilateral relations.
Wan Yi, a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, head of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and China’s special representative on border issues between China and India, stated that the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations serves the fundamental interests of the peoples of the two countries and holds global and strategic significance.
According to him, China is ready to develop bilateral relations with India from a strategic height and in the long term, to be good neighbors, good friends, and partners who help each other achieve success, achieving a “joint dance of the dragon and the elephant.”
Noting that the parties are consistently implementing the consensus reached at the meeting of special representatives, Wang Yi pointed out that the parties should give due importance to border issues in bilateral relations, firmly advance without stops, setbacks, or deviations, and gradually form a positive narrative on China-India border affairs, making dialogue, peace, consultation, and cooperation the main leitmotif.
India’s Special Representative, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, in turn, stated that the Indian side is ready to continue strengthening strategic communication with the Chinese side, effectively managing the situation in the border areas, seeking ways to resolve border issues, and promoting accelerated improvement and development of India-China relations.
The parties held in-depth communication on aspects such as advancing negotiations on border issues, proper management and control in the border area, improving mechanism building, and promoting cross-border cooperation.
The participants of the meeting confirmed that they will strive for a fair, rational, mutually acceptable, and comprehensive resolution of border issues in the spirit of mutual respect and mutual understanding.
The parties expressed their readiness to continue properly addressing border issues through dialogue and consultations in order to jointly maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas.
The participants agreed to hold the 26th meeting of the special representatives of the two countries on border issues in 2027 in India. –0–
