Modern Moscow youth is more than 3.2 million people who study and work, create families, and build the future of the capital and the entire country. Sergey Sobyanin spoke about how the city cares for its young residents.
“Youth is a wonderful time of life. A time to dream and love, to believe in yourself and make discoveries, to set high goals for yourself and achieve them. There is no better city in the world for this than Moscow. The metropolis of education, science, culture, and sports rightfully stands as the center of youth life in Russia,” wrote the Mayor of Moscow.
From doctors and educators to athletes and entrepreneurs
More than a million university students and over 320 thousand college students study in the capital. They acquire one or more in-demand professions to confidently enter the labor market.
A third of all metropolitan healthcare workers — more than 40,000 people — are young doctors and nurses, and a quarter of metropolitan education staff — more than 24,000 young teachers and caregivers.
More than 25 percent of the employees of the Moscow Metro are almost 17,000 young specialists. They ensure the operation of the metro and help make urban transport more modern and convenient.
About 30 percent of employees public service centers “My Documents” are young people providing high standards of Moscow service.
Every fifth user of the crowdsourcing platform “City of Ideas” — a young resident of the capital, helping to make Moscow more comfortable.
Almost a million young entrepreneurs are developing their businesses in the capital today.
More than 1.2 million young participants in patriotic, event-based, environmental, sports, cultural, social, and other activities are part of the ecosystem of the resource center “Mosvolonter.”
Over 912 thousand young participants of large-scale civil-patriotic events carefully preserve the historical memory of the city.
More than a million young participants take part annually in city sports competitions.
Project “Youth of Moscow”
Creating favorable conditions for the younger generation is a key state priority.
“Moscow has created a unique ecosystem of opportunities for young people to realize themselves in key areas — from science and business to volunteering, creativity, and sports. The heart of the ecosystem is the ‘Youth of Moscow’ project,” noted Sergey Sobyanin.
To provide young people with a career start and inform them about attractive offers from companies, the “Youth of Moscow” portal has gathered dozens of vacancies. Here you can find both permanent jobs and summer part-time work. Many metropolitan and federal companies collaborate with the project.
To give young people a chance to realize their business ideas and gain recognition, the “Youth of Moscow” project collaborates with city programs supporting technological entrepreneurship implemented by the NGO “Human Capital Development.” These include the international educational program for developing projects from idea to startup “Academy of Innovators,” the Moscow Mayor’s award for high-tech projects “Moscow Innovator,” and the Moscow Mayor’s international hackathon. Together with the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “Human Capital Development,” the “Moscow Youth” project has opened an academy. There, young city residents learn modern specialties, acquire in-demand skills, and develop professionally. The classes combine theory and practice, and participants can receive certificates upon completion.
Participants of student squads in Moscow gain real work experience on large-scale projects of the All-Russian youth public organization “Russian Student Squads” across the country — from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok.
Three multiformat spaces have been opened in the city: in Kholodilny Lane, on Vernadsky Avenue, and Izmailovsky Val Street. They offer many opportunities for creativity and self-expression. More than 500,000 young Muscovites have visited these spaces. Here they conduct master classes, record podcasts, rehearse theatrical sketches, and create their first clothing collections in design workshops.

School and student patriotic associations, which include more than 36 thousand young Muscovites, have taken under their patronage over a thousand military graves and monuments. They carefully care for the historical heritage and preserve the memory of the heroes of the Fatherland.
In addition, the “Youth of Moscow” project helps to establish relations between countries. The Moscow International Friendship Club has brought together active youth from more than 154 countries worldwide — from China, Brazil, and Belarus to Egypt, Indonesia, and Turkey.
“Moscow is a city of great opportunities for young people. The strength of youth lies in their energy, courage, and sincere desire to make the capital better. We will continue to develop the youth support ecosystem: opening new technology clusters, expanding the network of free creative spaces, improving internship programs, and supporting useful youth startups,” noted Sergey Sobyanin.
The Mayor of Moscow assured that the city will always support the ideas of the youth and help turn bold plans into real actions.
