For 20 years, specialists at the Moscow Center for Emergency Psychological Assistance have been supporting city residents in difficult life situations. The service operates around the clock and anonymously — just call the toll-free phone number: 051.

“Service 051 has remained a reliable link in the psychological support system in Moscow for many years. The specialists working on the line have higher professional education and extensive counseling experience, which allows them to provide assistance competently, promptly, and fully in accordance with professional standards. The main thing is to understand that seeking help means showing care for yourself,” said Anna Galyanova, head of the emergency psychological assistance center.

Assistance in numbers

More than a quarter of all calls are related to family or work conflicts. About 25 percent of consultations are dedicated to coping with stress caused by society’s high standards of success. Young people who have just started their careers and are facing uncertainty in their own abilities most often seek help with these issues. Consultations with a psychologist help them distinguish between objective difficulties and imposed expectations.

At least 13 percent of calls from Muscovites are related to feelings of loneliness. In such cases, people just need to hear the calm voice of a specialist and feel that their concerns matter. In 10 percent of cases, city residents seek help due to increased anxiety — they find it difficult to cope with their worries and loss of strength. Telephone consultation becomes the first step towards stabilizing their emotional state.

More than 30 percent of the requests are related to psychological difficulties and acute crisis conditions associated with personal growth, feelings of helplessness, and fear of uncertainty.

New stages of development

Since 2018, specialists of service 051 have been interacting with the 112 system, which allows emergency services to be called with a single number. This helps provide assistance more quickly to those in need.

Last year, on the official website of the Moscow Psychological Assistance Service for the capital’s population Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population a chatbot appeared. Citizens can ask questions online, it will analyze them, after which a service specialist will join the conversation and help determine the choice of necessary individual support.

Different forms of assistance

In addition to telephone and online consultations, specialists of the Moscow Psychological Assistance Service conduct appointments in medical institutions: general profile clinical hospitals, six flagship emergency care centers, outpatient oncology care centers, and mental health centers.

Psychologists interact with doctors and social coordinators, providing psychological assistance and support to patients in stressful situations or states of severe emotional tension at various stages of treatment.

A special working format is implemented at the outpatient center oncological care Morozovskaya Children’s City Clinical Hospital. Here, psychologists provide support to parents, help them navigate difficult emotions, and advise on how to gently build communication with the child during treatment.

In addition, remote assistance is available. Muscovites can sign up for an online consultation at mental health centers or through digital services — the mobile applications “EMIAS.INFO”, “Moscow State Services”, “My Moscow”, as well as on the portals mos.ru, emias.info, and at on the service website.
