More than 100 young specialists have started paid IT-City internship. As part of the eighth cohort, they will work on key digital projects of the capital and will be able to apply the knowledge gained in practice. The program is designed to last six months and will conclude in January of next year.
“Young specialists have received a unique opportunity to become part of the team of the Department of Information Technology of the city of Moscow, creating the future of the capital. The interns have already joined the work on key city projects. They will develop the mos.ru portal, improve the unified medical information and analytical system, work on the platform “Moscow Electronic School“, a tourist service Russpass and many other projects. The guys are not just gaining experience — they are changing the lives of millions of Muscovites for the better. We believe in the potential of every specialist and are ready to provide all opportunities for their professional growth,” said the deputy head of the capital city administration
Department of Information Technology (DIT) Dmitry Derelyak.
The internship covers 10 IT areas, including business analysis, development, and information security. Participants in the program can be senior students and university graduates aged 18 to 35. For the “User Support” direction, senior students and graduates of technical schools and colleges are also accepted.
The “IT City” program is a joint project of the Human Resources Services Department of the Moscow Government and the Moscow Department of Information Technology.
“To attract talented young people to the Moscow team, it is necessary to understand: what exactly is important to them in their career. Our recent study showed: young people choose an employer who listens to their ideas, supports and trusts projects where they can make a real impact. In our internship program, there is no barrier between large-scale city tasks and young specialists who want to work on them. This approach delivers results: more than 60 percent of interns receive job offers and continue their professional path in the Moscow team,” said Polina Loginova, Head of the Personnel Services Department of the Moscow Government.
The success of the “IT City” program largely depends on experienced mentors who help novice specialists get settled in the profession.
Alexander Shipovalov, an expert of the “IT-City” program and head of the testing department, said that he takes about four interns per group into his team, and almost all of them subsequently remain working in the division. He actively participates in the program, including in the selection of candidates and the preparation of tests. Alexander emphasized that thanks to the interns, new solutions appeared in the field of business analytics, incentive systems, and working with electronic digital signatures.
The selection took place in several stages. First, students and graduates of Moscow educational institutions took various tests. Then the candidates met with mentors and underwent specialized professional assessments depending on the chosen direction.
Maria Blazhievskaya, a junior HR management specialist, is interning at the Moscow Government in the HR sector and is involved in organizing and promoting the “IT City” program. She noted that this experience allows one to quickly understand whether the chosen professional path is correct and to try oneself in various city projects. Maria emphasized that the Department of Information Technologies always supports the participants’ initiative: active interns can propose ideas to mentors and receive tasks tailored to their interests and skills.
IT-City Program maintains a high level of demand: over more than three years of its existence, more than 34 thousand applications have been submitted. Today, in the capital’s Department of Information Technology, more than 270 former interns work, who have continued their professional careers within the agency.
For those who did not manage to apply application for participation in the eighth cohort, just learned about the program or wants to try their hand once more, the new selection will begin in the fall.
Training personnel for the IT industry aligns with the objectives of the national project “Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State”. More details about Russia’s national projects and the capital’s contribution can be found at special page.
