Deputy Chairman of the Government – Chief of the Government Office Dmitry Grigorenko, during a working trip to the Saratov region, familiarized himself with the results of the implementation of the federal program for the comprehensive development of urban electric transport in the region. To date, more than 60 modern low-floor trams have been put into operation on routes in Saratov, and in Engels, passengers are transported by 6 domestically produced electric buses. In total, under the program, about 280 electric buses and 480 trams have been delivered to regions of Russia, and more than 100 charging stations have been installed. The renewal of urban electric transport is carried out with the support of the state corporation VEB.RF. The federal program is implemented under the supervision of the Deputy Prime Minister.
The new trams and electric buses are equipped with a monitoring and video surveillance system that ensures passenger safety during the trip. In particular, the dispatcher center operator can monitor the situation inside the vehicle and respond quickly to any potential incidents. Special attention is given to passenger comfort: the rolling stock is equipped with climate control featuring an air purification function and USB ports for charging mobile devices.
In Saratov, renovated trams are running on a reconstructed section of tram tracks as part of the program. Currently, its total length is more than 60 km – which is 100% of the planned figure. In total, over 328 km of tram tracks have been renovated in the regions under the program.
Innovative solutions were used in the modernization of tram lines: seamless rail joints and special noise-absorbing technologies were employed. As a result, trams move along the route almost silently and are comparable in travel comfort to modern electric buses. This technological solution not only increases passenger comfort but also improves the environmental situation in the city.
“Saratov region is the leader of the project in terms of supply volumes and construction scale. And importantly, city residents can already feel the results of this work. Due to the launch of new trams and electric buses, and the renewal of routes, the average travel time is reduced by 30%, and trips become more comfortable. To date, a decision has been made to launch a new concession in the Saratov region and further expand the program. In total, about 280 electric buses and 480 trams have been supplied to the regions, and more than 100 charging stations have been installed,” said Dmitry Grigorenko.
He also noted that within the program, a digital platform for public transport management is used in the regions. It consists of 8 modules performing various functions – from informing passengers to monitoring passenger flow. These functions allow optimizing road traffic and increase the capacity of public transport.
A comprehensive program for upgrading urban electric transport is being implemented in several major regions of Russia, including Kursk, Lipetsk, Yaroslavl, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd oblasts, and the Perm and Krasnodar territories.
