In the large amphitheater of Zaryadye Park on August 22 at 17:00, the Moscow Children’s Symphony Orchestra will perform. The concert will take place as part of the IV Festival of Youth Orchestras of the World, whose artistic director is Yuri Bashmet. This year, the group included 93 young students from 24 music schools in Moscow. 80 of them represent 20 arts schools subordinate to the capital’s To the Department of Culture.

The Moscow Children’s Symphony Orchestra was founded in 2025 at the initiative of People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Bashmet specifically to participate in the III Festival of Youth Orchestras of the World. The ensemble united talented students of the capital’s music schools aged 10 to 16.
The orchestra’s first performance took place on August 23, 2025, in the large amphitheater of Zaryadye Park. The orchestra was led by maestro Yuri Bashmet and the young conductor Anton Shnitkin. The musicians performed Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony, excerpts from Edvard Grieg’s music for the play “Peer Gynt,” and pieces from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker.”

The project includes not only concerts but also systematic work with young musicians. The children study with experienced teachers, participate in competitions, and perform at well-known venues in the capital, while in the orchestra they learn the nuances of playing works together. This kind of training helps improve their skills and promotes the continuity of generations in domestic musical culture.
“I step onto the stage and realize: it’s not just music playing now, but our collective voice. And in that voice is all of Moscow, all the guys from the orchestra. It’s simply incredible and very responsible!” shared her impressions Ksenia Abdurashitova, a young violinist and eighth-grade student at the Joseph Haydn Children’s Music School.
The festival takes place as part of ‘Cultural City’ festival, which became part of the project “Summer in Moscow”. It is being held from August 1 to September 6. Admission to all events is free.
