The new season of the international Olympiad of the Association “Global Universities” has started. This year, the project marks a significant date — 10 years since its founding. During this time, the Olympiad has become a hallmark of Russian higher education, attracting thousands of talented foreign students to the country.
Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University has been a constant participant in the olympiad since its inception. Over the years, Polytechnic has consistently strengthened its position as one of the leading partner universities. While in the first year only three olympiad winners studied at the university, today the number of applications has exceeded 250. All of them have been given the opportunity to study in master’s and doctoral programs under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation.
An important innovation was the expansion of the Olympiad tracks: now winners can enroll not only in master’s and postgraduate programs but also in bachelor’s programs. This opened the doors of Russian universities to an even wider range of foreign applicants, including high school and college graduates.
Interest in the olympiad remains at a record high this season: more than 250 applications from last year’s winners have already been submitted to SPbPU.
The Olympiad is held in 14 interdisciplinary profiles. SPbPU participates in 11 of them and acts as a coordinator in two — “Business and Management” and “Economics and Econometrics.”
The Olympics will take place in several stages:
- registration and portfolio submission: August 20 — November 1, 2026
- online exam: November 13 — December 21, 2026
- interviews for PhD and postdocs: December 22, 2026 — February 26, 2027.
The anniversary season of Open Doors is a confirmation of the maturity and global recognition of the project. Over ten years, the olympiad has proven its effectiveness as a social elevator for talented youth from around the world. Polytechnic has always been and remains an active participant in this movement, opening its doors to brilliant minds who choose Russian engineering education of a world-class level, commented Dmitry Arsenyev, Vice-Rector for International Activities at SPbPU.
IT fields, robotics, and nuclear energy traditionally attract special interest. SPbPU, coordinating two profiles, strengthens its leadership in engineering education, noted Evgenia Satalkina, Head of the International Education Department.
Winners and prize-winners of the olympiad receive the right to free education at leading Russian universities funded by the federal budget, as well as a monthly state scholarship.
