The biometric train boarding service has been launched on new routes: Nizhny Novgorod – Kirov and Nizhny Novgorod – Ivanovo. Further scaling of the service is planned. The development of biometric technologies in Russia is overseen by Deputy Prime Minister – Head of the Government Office Dmitry Grigorenko.
“From today, passengers have access to new destinations for train boarding using biometrics. We will continue to scale this service. I would like to note that the use of biometrics is voluntary. In all user scenarios, it acts as an alternative way to receive services,” said Dmitry Grigorenko.
You can register your biometrics for service use directly at the Nizhny Novgorod train station.
Since April of this year, biometric travel is available on the routes Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow – Ivanovo, Moscow – Kostroma. To board a train using biometric verification, you need to register in the Unified Biometric System in advance and give consent for data processing. The service is available on trains operated by the high-speed communication directorate.
Passenger identity verification is carried out at boarding the carriage using the conductor’s portable device. At the same time, the passenger can always choose how to prove their identity – with a passport or using biometrics.
The Unified Biometric System is a government information platform that provides more than 20 services. These include contactless payment for purchases, transportation travel, airplane boarding, remote business registration, service at multipurpose centers without a passport, and a number of others.
