The construction of the interchange at the 593rd km of the M-11 “Neva” expressway continues in the Leningrad Region. As of today, specialists have completed the laying of asphalt concrete, said Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“The development of the road network is a process that requires systematic and comprehensive work. As traffic intensity on federal highways increases, the load on adjacent regional roads also rises. We see how, thanks to the emergence of modern highways, nearby settlements develop more actively — business activity grows, tourist traffic increases, logistics improves. And our task in changing conditions is to make routes even more convenient. Thus, we continue to improve the M-11 “Neva” highway. At the request of residents and governors of Leningrad and Novgorod regions, a transport interchange is being built at the 593 km mark of the highway by the state company “Avtodor.” The road pavement has now been completed here, with more than 16,000 tons of asphalt concrete laid. The facility will be open for traffic by the end of the year. This will significantly reduce travel time to the federal highway for residents of the surrounding districts,” said Marat Khusnullin.
Modern road machinery and innovative materials are used in the construction of the transport interchange. Geosynthetics, including geogrids and geonets, are applied. They are designed to evenly distribute loads on the road surface, extend its service life, and subsequently reduce maintenance costs for the section.
According to Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the State Company “Avtodor,” special attention is being paid to ensuring traffic safety during the construction of the interchange with 8 exits, totaling 2.5 km in length.
“For comfortable travel during dark hours on the transition-speed lanes and interchanges, specialists install lines of outdoor lighting. In addition, the facility is equipped with intelligent transport systems, the key element of which is an automated traffic management system. With its help, the road situation in the section will be monitored in real time. For example, in case of an emergency situation, drivers receive round-the-clock assistance from the emergency commissioners’ service. Moreover, the new facility is being built taking into account the existing multifunctional road service zone in the direction toward Saint Petersburg, where drivers and passengers, as well as families with children, can use everything necessary on the road,” noted Vyacheslav Petushenko.
