Beijing, August 15 /Xinhua/ — The official spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Defense, Jiang Bin, on Saturday condemned Japanese political leaders for monetary offerings and visits to the Yasukuni Shrine, stating that such actions whitewash Japan’s military aggression, challenge the outcomes of the global anti-fascist war and the postwar international order, and also insult the feelings of the peoples of countries affected by Japanese militarism.
Jiang Bin made a corresponding statement, commenting on media reports that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made a monetary offering to the Yasukuni Shrine on the anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II, while the country’s Defense Minister Shinzō Koizumi and other politicians visited the shrine.
Noting that the Yasukuni Shrine served as a spiritual instrument and symbol of Japanese militarism in waging aggressive wars abroad, he stated that the actions of these Japanese politicians are a blatant violation of historical justice.
“Declaring their commitment to peace, they continue to pay tribute to those responsible for the war. Such hypocrisy fully exposes the extremely distorted view of history held by Japan’s right-wing forces, as well as their dangerous attempts to revive militarism,” Jiang Bing pointed out.
Recalling that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the start of the Tokyo Trial, Jiang Bin urged Japan to truly learn lessons from history and stop moving against the course of historical development.
An official representative of the Chinese defense ministry warned that if Japan persistently advances “new militarism” and becomes a source of instability threatening peace in the region, it will once again have to face the court of justice and history. –0–
