Beijing, August 14 /Xinhua/ — Chen Xi, an official representative of the Ministry of National Defense of the PRC, expressed a strong protest regarding the baseless accusations and slander against China from the Philippines and Australia.
Chen Xi made a corresponding statement on Friday at a press briefing in response to a question about the recent joint statement by the Philippines and Australia following a meeting of defense ministers, which expressed “serious concern” about recent actions of China’s Coast Guard in the Ren’ai Reef area.
According to him, the Chinese side has taken the necessary professional, restrained, and unimpeachable measures in response to deliberate provocations and attacks by the Philippine side on Chinese personnel at the Ren’ai Reef, which the Chinese Coast Guard has already announced and provided evidence for.
As emphasized by the representative of the Chinese defense department, the Ren’ai Reef is part of the Chinese Nansha archipelago and an integral territory of China, and no actions or statements from the Philippine side can change this fact.
“What the Philippine side must do is to remove the tank landing ship BRP Sierra Madre /LT-57/, which has illegally run aground, as soon as possible,” Chen Xi stated.
According to a representative of the Ministry of Defense of the PRC, the Chinese side will continue to carry out activities to protect rights and enforce laws in order to suppress any violations and provocations, defend national sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
