Beijing, August 13 /Xinhua/ — Recently, the 2026 scientific conference was held in the city of Korla /Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Northwest China/ as part of the China /Xinjiang/-Central Asia Alliance of Agricultural Science and Technology Innovations, reported the Chinese daily newspaper “Xinjiang Daily.”
The event was jointly organized by the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the XUAR and the government of the Bayan-Gol Mongol Autonomous Prefecture of the XUAR. Its main theme was “Empowering Science and Technology to Promote the Sustainable Development of Regional Agriculture.”
The conference was attended by representatives from 70 member organizations of the specified alliance from China and Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, 6 Chinese and foreign academicians, more than 300 experts and scientists, as well as representatives from over 60 agricultural enterprises, who discussed issues of expanding regional cooperation in agricultural science and technology.
Vice President of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Ma Yin, noted that this conference is an important step in promoting deeper interaction and complementary advantages between China and Central Asia in the field of agriculture. This event is also viewed as a significant measure to deepen China-Central Asia agricultural cooperation and a vivid practice of implementing the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the Global Development Initiative.
The conference featured four thematic sections dedicated to cereal crop breeding and innovations in seed production, the high-quality development of the cotton industry, eco-friendly protection of agricultural plants in arid regions, and agricultural microorganisms, as well as a special meeting on the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
At the conference, a ceremony was held for the signing of 10 cooperation agreements, which enable the transformation of fruitful academic exchange results into practical outcomes of industrial collaboration.
The aforementioned alliance was established in September 2025 at the initiative of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the SARM. Over the nearly past year, the alliance has focused its attention on key areas such as smart agriculture, germplasm resources, water-saving irrigation, reclamation of saline-alkali soils, “green” and low-carbon technologies, creating a number of high-level international cooperation platforms.
