At the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, a forum of Cossack youth of the Northwest was held. The event was dedicated to the Day of Military Glory of Russia — the Day of the End of the Siege of Leningrad.
The participants of the forum were welcomed by Roman Balashov, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Northwestern Federal District.
The program included an introduction to federal and regional youth policies, grant support mechanisms, a discussion of traditional Cossack values, as well as mastering social project design technologies—from the birth of an idea to defining key performance indicators.
During the forum, a cooperation agreement was signed between Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the Northwest Cossack Host. The document establishes a long-term partnership between the university and the Cossack organization in the areas of patriotic education, personnel training, and the implementation of joint educational projects.
The agreement was signed by Valery Sushchenko, director of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism at SPbPU, and Maxim Buga, ataman of the Northwestern Cossack Host. The cooperation involves incorporating modules on the history and culture of the Cossacks into the university’s curricula, holding joint scientific conferences and student forums, as well as organizing student internships and training based on Cossack societies. Plans include conducting educational lectures and military-sports camps, developing volunteer initiatives that foster civic responsibility and cultivate teamwork skills in young people.
An important part of the partnership will be the gradual integration of the Polytechnic University into the Association of Cossack Universities. Currently, it includes 29 universities, with another ten holding candidate status. SPbPU is the first university in the Northwestern Federal District to decide to join the Association. This will enable it to participate in inter-university programs, exchange best practices with colleagues, and engage in the development of educational standards taking into account the specifics of Cossack culture.
