Tour guide Hu Shizhao is a representative of the “post-85” generation, originally from the city of Cilushan in Yudu County, Jiangxi Province. At the end of 2014, already married and with children, she returned to her hometown in Jiangxi, and the following year became a kindergarten teacher. Having been influenced by “red” culture since childhood, in 2019 Hu Shizhao joined the local team of volunteer tour guides. In 2021, she left her teaching job and became a full-time guide on revolutionary themes. She is mainly responsible for conducting tours on the “Long March Trail” in the Cilushan township.
This trail is an important testimony to the secret march of the Red Army after crossing the Yudu River in 1934, when the troops broke through the enemy’s first blockade. The route runs through mountains: here are narrow paths and dense forests, a humid and hot climate, and the road becomes slippery and dangerous in the rain. To make the history more understandable and vivid, Hu Shizhao not only honed her lectures using historical materials but also creatively incorporated Hakka folk songs and her own dances into them. She also opened an account on Douyin to promote local “red” culture through new media. Over five years of working as a guide, she has walked this winding trail more than five hundred times. With her steps, she has measured the strength of faith and, with unwavering dedication to the cause, tells the stories of the Long March to tourists from all over the world, drawing strength from the great spirit of the Long March for further achievements.
