An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.
The Bank of Russia has set a limit on the purchase of cryptocurrencies for non-qualified investors. Each intermediary – broker, crypto exchanger, or manager – will be able to acquire such assets up to 300,000 rubles per year.
Such a provision is contained in draft instruction, published for discussion. To protect unqualified investors from sharp and unpredictable fluctuations in cryptocurrency rates, only the most liquid of them will be available to them.
According to law, when selecting cryptocurrencies, their market capitalization, average daily trading volume, as well as the price history on foreign platforms, which for such an asset must be at least 5 years, are taken into account.
Based on these criteria, the Bank of Russia included Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether USDT in the list of cryptocurrencies available for public trading on exchanges. Qualified investors will be able to purchase all cryptocurrencies that will be traded on exchange and over-the-counter markets without restrictions.
Before making transactions, all investors regardless of their status will be required to undergo testing and familiarize themselves with the risks of investing in crypto assets.
Comments and suggestions on the document can be sent to the Bank of Russia until August 24 inclusive.
