Top news of the day at the UN and worldwide: humanitarian facilities were damaged as a result of strikes on Ukraine, damage assessment is underway after the earthquake in Colombia, the UN warns of escalation risks in Yemen, and the Democratic Republic of Congo lacks local Ebola treatment centers.

Victims among the population of Ukraine
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, citing Ukrainian authorities, reports that as a result of attacks across Ukraine over the past three days, civilians, including children, have been killed and injured. The UN notes that humanitarian operations have also been affected. In Dnipro, a warehouse of the World Health Organization was destroyed by strikes. On the same day, a vehicle used for evacuating the population was damaged. In the Kherson region, a truck belonging to a local partner organization of the World Food Programme was hit. Humanitarian agencies continue to provide assistance to those affected.
Earthquake in Colombia
United Nations Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq reported that the Organization is closely monitoring the situation in Colombia following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred this morning. According to available data, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the central part of the country. At the same time, underground tremors were felt throughout the region. Communication disruptions have occurred in rural areas, so there is not yet accurate information on casualties and the full extent of the consequences. According to media reports, dozens of people have died. The Colombian government has begun evacuating the population and is coordinating damage assessment. The UN is ready to provide necessary assistance to the country.
The situation in Yemen
The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, warned that the country today faces the highest risk of a large-scale conflict resuming since April 2022, when a ceasefire was agreed under UN mediation. In recent weeks, Grundberg has been actively engaging with Yemeni parties, regional players, and international partners, discussing specific options for de-escalation. He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to participate in UN-led negotiations in good faith.
Ebola Outbreak
As a result of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, more than 1,900 people have died, with the majority never reaching treatment centers. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 60 to 70 percent of patients die at home. Due to the lack of suitable medical facilities near their place of residence, patients often have to travel long distances to receive care. Addressing this problem has become one of the key focus areas of the WHO, the organization emphasized.
